If you are injured at work

If you are injured in an accident at work the first thing to do if you are going to be off is make sure you get your statutory sick pay. This is payable for up to 28 weeks. If you are off work after 6 months you can make a claim for long-term invalidity or disablement benefit. If you are injured at work the accident should be noted in the firm's on-site accident book. By law, it is the duty of the employer to record your accident in the accident book and this is your evidence that your accident occurred. A company accident book is required by law if the firm has more than 10 employees. If there is no accident book, or no-one has made a note of the incident then you should advise your employer in writing of the full circumstances of the accident and the injuries you have suffered
